The New Lenox Community Park District is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant for the highly anticipated renovation of Sharon’s Bay Park. Out of all applications submitted across the region, the New Lenox Community Park District is proud to be one of only two park districts in Will County to receive this significant grant.
The OSLAD grant will enable the Park District to bring an exciting vision for Sharon’s Bay Park to life, transforming it into a vibrant community hub. The redevelopment strategy includes the creation of three modern play zones tailored to various age groups, ensuring fun and safe recreational opportunities for children, teens, and families alike. The renovation also features a high school regulation basketball court, an upgraded volleyball court, and the addition of the innovative “Tween Central Social Hub,” designed to encourage active engagement and social interaction for local tweens.
“We are incredibly excited and honored to receive this grant,” said Greg Lewis, Executive Director of the New Lenox Community Park District. “This project is a testament to our community to creating inclusive, innovative, and high-quality recreational spaces for the New Lenox community. Sharon’s Bay Park’s redevelopment will provide opportunities for environmental education, accessible fishing, and active play for all ages, further enhancing our community’s quality of life.”
The renovation plan also incorporates shoreline enhancements, which will not only beautify the park but also serve as a resource for environmental education. These improvements will create a welcoming space for accessible fishing and nature appreciation, fostering a deeper connection to the environment for park visitors.
