On Friday, October 20, two New Lenox Community Park District Board members were honored at the annual Illinois Association of Park Districts Best of the Best Awards Gala. NLCPD Board President Ted Schulz was honored for ten years of service and Vice President Brian Fischer was honored for 20 years of service.
Schulz was elected to the NLCPD Board in 2013. He has played a vital role in the completion of several OSLAD grant projects, including the most recent Sky Harbor Park development. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the IAPD Board of Trustees. Schulz works with the 19-member board to advise the association in providing service, research, advocacy, public awareness and educational programs to its membership of 350 park, recreation and conservation agencies.
Fischer joined the NLCPD in 2003 as a commissioner on the Park Board. He served as Park Board President from 2005 to 2018, when he was nominated to hold his current position of Vice President. Throughout his time on the Park Board, he has been instrumental in attaining over $5 million in state funding for parks and facilities.
The Best of the Best Gala recognizes members’ anniversaries and accomplishments each year. IAPD strives to improve Illinois’ quality of life through park districts, forest preserves, conservation and recreation agencies by establishing grants and other revenue streams for park land, facilities and services. It is an honor to see both Schulz and Fischer honored by the IAPD.
